One of the key components of the CLEAR-X project is to help consumers make informed decisions about their energy consumption, which ideally leads to behavioural change – saving energy and money all at once.
Price comparison tools can be one of the best ways to easily inform consumers about their energy consumption. Inspired by this, CLEAR-X project partners have each created a digital tool to help consumers understand how much they could save through using energy efficient and renewable energy technologies.
The tools vary in nature, depending on the products each partner will use for their collective purchase campaigns in 2022 and 2023, which form the core of the CLEAR-X project. While the tools developed by Cypriot partner Kypriakos Syndesmos Katanaloton and Slovakian partner SOS Poprad explain the potential savings of installing PV (solar) panels, the tool from North Macedonian partner OPM informs consumers about the power usage of an air conditioner based on gathered heating and cooling data.
The tools developed by Slovenian partner ZPS and Bulgarian partner BNAAC both focus on air conditioner savings, while ZPS developed also another tool specifically for heat pump tumble dryers. Finally, the tool developed by the Lithuanian Consumers Alliance tool focuses on the payback period of solar energy generation via various means.
“Digital tools and price comparison websites are a key way forward in informing consumers about their potential energy savings and the benefits of renewable energy”, commented Kęstutis Kupšys of the Lithuanian Consumers Alliance. “The extent of tools on offer here – varying based on national energy contexts and available products – will help consumers navigate the complex energy field with confidence and allow them to make the prudent decision.”
More details on each tool are available in the full report.
