It may be 2° C in Brussels this week, but it is still 20° C in Cyprus, and for that reason the Cyprus Consumers Association has kicked off its first collective purchase campaign of the CLEAR-X project, dedicated to air conditioners.
Under the campaign, consumers in Cyprus have the chance to sign up for collective purchases of several types of air conditioner, especially selected for the CLEAR-X project due to their energy efficiency and high performance results in lab testing by project partner ICRT. At the time of writing, more than 1,600 consumers had already registered!
“Most homes in Cyprus already have air conditioners,” commented Stamatis Rossides of the Cyprus Consumers Association, “but they’re often quite old and inefficient. Newer air conditioners will bring down consumers’ energy bills, as well as reducing Cyprus’ energy consumption and climate emissions.”
A range of products are on offer in the campaign, starting at approximately €800 and going up to around €1,500. This includes a collective discount of up to 20% depending on the product, and crucially, includes installation of the new air conditioners, as well as removal of the old one by the installers.
“The first thing we want to emphasise is the high quality and energy efficiency of the products,” commented Mr Rossides, “but we are also happy with the really competitive discount, especially when we consider the impact inflation has had on renewable technologies and many other products recently.”
However, the Cyprus Consumers Association is also calling on the national government to create financial schemes which would allow lower income consumers to participate in the transition to more efficient appliances, as well as calling on banks to create low-interest loans for the same purpose.
